Statuette of Khufu from Abydos

Statuette of Khufu from Abydos
"Behind this statue lies an inspiring story.
As told by Petrie,
his workmen present him with a tiny ivory statue that bears the name of Khufu,
builder of the Great Pyramid. It is the first
(and it remains the only)
statue of this Pharaoh to be discovered, ever.
It measures just over 7 cm from base to the top of the crown.
The trouble is, it is headless.
Petrie
gets some of his men to spend three weeks sifting through the spoil heaps and,
miraculously, they find the tiny, tiny head.
It is a story for optimists
(or for cynics, if you think the workmen were teasing Petrie).
The statuette is now in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo."
